On 4th March 1998, a meeting was held by members of the Institute who reside in Hong Kong, to discuss the possibility of the formation of a Hong Kong Branch.Those attending voted unanimously to seek the approval of Council to allow the formation of the branch.
In summer of 1998, at a Council meeting in the UK, permission was given for the formation of the Hong Kong Branch of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management.
Since then, the branch has actively organised a number of activities for members and young engineers who are interested or currently serving the healthcare engineering field. Normally, the branch will organise 2-3 technical site visits and 1-2 seminar each year.In addition, the branch will joint with other institutes to organise Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for building services engineers and technologists to strengthen their knowledge in conceptual design, working principles, standards and regulations for hospitals in Hong Kong.
Recently, the branch will also publish its newsletter to members periodically.The purpose of the newsletter is to remind the members about the upcoming events of the branch and to provide them with the news about the latest technologies in the healthcare engineering field.
